Abstract

    Car crashes can occur anywhere, and have injured and/or killed millions of people globally. In 2005, nearly 40,000 people were killed in the USA because of car crashes! Thousands of these car crashes are due to distracted driving. Distracted driving includes texting and driving, eating and driving, and other behavior. Our new invention, the X-Text, will help prevent many types of distracted driving, but its main purpose is to help stop one of the most deadly: texting and driving. In X-Text enabled cars, there are pressure plates on the steering wheel that detect when the driver has their hands on the steering wheel. If the car engine is in drive and does not sense any hands on the wheel for more than ten seconds, the car will safely pull over and come to a stop. This invention is dedicated to safer roads.

    The problem that we are trying to solve is texting and driving. This is a big problem in our society with 1,600,000 accidents per year, 330,000 injuries per year, and 11 teen deaths per day. The problem is that anyone can be affected by this, and most of the accidents are deadly. This affects the innocent people because people can get injured, get paralyzed, or even die. The problem is that technology is getting bigger and bigger. As it grows, so does the obsession. As the obsession grows, so do the number of people using them. As the number of people using grows, so do the number of people that texting and driving. It is time to put an end to this tragedy. now, for present technology
